    Samhain

Friday, Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to a ‘Contemplation of my own Death’  in the company of dear friends. Led by Brian Oakenleaf we spent three days untangling our own attitudes towards death and therefore, life. We discussed Scottish and family traditions, rituals and beliefs associated with death. Being present at the set

I woke up early feeling the energy that accompanies the beginning of an exciting day. I have a list of things that I will achieve today. Having not learned the lessons of the last week my morning list equates to a set of tasks that would sensibly take a week. Create an image of a…

    Alaistair Mclennan

I spent the morning talking to lovely technicians about how I can modify my approach to accessing workshops. Until I meet with the disability services I will have to use the stools that are available in each workshop. Hopefully a saddle stool will become available when I can have my assessment.   Everything takes so…

    Fatigued Tuesday

Last night I stayed up far too late taking rubbings from honeycomb. Sometimes especially when I am very tired I have no thought in my head about why I am doing what I’m doing. The task in hand was to try and take a rubbing from the comb that indicates its structure without destroying it.…

Wednesday – Rules of drawing group crit

We receive 24 hours notice of our first group crit. There is no time to produce the perfect drawing from the sketches that we each of us have around our spaces. There is only time to select which ones we are prepared to show and to say what? I have had time to develop some…

Here is an attractive middle aged woman who is intelligent, succesful and a kind person (as far as i can see) I give myself…

Kate MacLeod – ‘the impermanence of the work initiates documentation and new work’

Thought provoking and stimulating CAP talk from KateMacLeod. Kate introduced her practice by saying that she was motivated to make work that isn’t always possible. Writing about imaginary artwork as though it exists (Ekphrasis) can take down boundaries to the possible. Ekphrastic writing has the potential to hold unrealised artwork / sculptures. This relates back…

    Tuesday

Tutorial with Alex Roberts; – As there is also a tutorial with Anita this afternoon, we focussed our discussion around life drawing and how it feeds into my larger practice.   I described how I lose myself in the activity and enjoy the process but when I then review my drawings some days later I…

    Sunday

A beautiful autumn day. The low soft light really did flow around the garden. Another few hours of helping the plants that live here to get comfy for the winter. We mulched, put plants from pots into the ground. I need to find good compost to mulch the delicate plants.
