7.30 yoga helped clear the knots and pains from standing on Tuesday.
Introduction to wood workshop. Looking forward to working with the large saws, drills and sanders. Found a eucalyptus branch that I can play with
Spent the afternoon cutting rounds from the eucalyptus and comparing to the willow that I had cut at home. The eucalyptus is a much denser wood. The willow grows so fast that it is weak and cutting cross sections makes it weak. However willow is local and eucalyptus is not. I will look for an oak branch. Working with the material deepens my understanding of it and in a way distances me from the idea that initiated the process. The process morphs into working with the information that my senses are receiving from the materials and the tools.
The intention is to create a version of the equinox drawing in wood and honeycomb, as inspired by the Jaqueline Freeman quote ********
Bees are the guardians of the flowers and plant (aka life itself) through the winter months
Thursday evening talk for TBWDP with Anita. I am becoming more familiar again with talking about drawing and hearing others talk. The more that I hear and look the more that I realise that neither fully communicate the experience of the artist or the viewer. The most that can be hoped for is hooks or hand holds for each of us to explore how near or far we are from each other’s perceptions. This evening a talk from Iain R. Webb: DRAWING FASHION
Late night playing with wax and wood making a mess but getting a handle on the materials
