Vertical again

So happy to be back in college again. I am beginning to really feel the group bonding and warming to each other. Rules of Drawing session is about writing our personal statements with Alex. I fill 2 pages with notes. There are so many things that could be said in a personal statement it is difficult to know what to say, how much to say, who is it for? I guess that it is a moveable feast and it will have to be written and rewritten as often as we show our work.

The lunchtime CAD talk is from Jackie Donachie. The work is fascinating. I like the overlaying of images and sizes and indeed concepts. Much of Jackie’s work is intensely personal, however it is framed within architectural or mathematical aesthetics and this de-personalises it.

I am particularly taken with a large granite (looks like) circle. It is a lovely object as well as being heated to enable people to keep warm outside. So simple but so right.

The image above is a diagram of all of the dance floors in Newcastle for Jackie’s work ‘the slosh’ again simple and informative and it looks as though it was a useful step in the realisation of the final work.
