There\u2019s a bogle by the bour-tree at the lang loan heid,
\nI canna thole the thocht o\u2019 him, he fills ma he\u2019rt wi\u2019 dreid;
\nHe skirls like a hoolet, an\u2019 he rattles a\u2019 his banes,
\nAn\u2019 gi\u2019es himsel\u2019 an unco fash to fricht wee weans.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s never there by daylicht, but ance the gloamin\u2019 fa\u2019s,
\nHe creeps alang the heid-rig, an\u2019 through the tattie-shaws,
\nSyne splairges through the burn, an\u2019 comes sprachlin\u2019 ower the stanes,
\nThen coories doun ahint the dyke to fricht wee weans.<\/p>\n

I canna say I\u2019ve seen him, an\u2019 it\u2019s no\u2019 that I am blin\u2019,
\nBut, whene\u2019er I pass the bour-tree, I steek ma een an\u2019 rin;
\nAn\u2019 though I get a tum\u2019le whiles I\u2019d raither thole sic pains,
\nThan look upon the likes o\u2019 yon<\/em> that frichts wee weans.<\/p>\n

I daurna gang that gait ma lane by munelicht or by mirk,
\nOor Tam\u2019s no feart, but then he\u2019s big, an\u2019 strang as ony stirk;
\nHe says the bogle\u2019s juist the win\u2019 that through the bour-tree maens.
\nThe muckle gowk! It\u2019s no the win\u2019 that frichts wee weans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
