We listened to a variety of sounds and made marks in response. We were encouraged to work differently to our norm with different materials and to possibly close our eyes. It was a glorious session. The freedom to play with materials felt wonderful. To know that we weren\u2019t going to be criticised or challenged about our output. By closing my eyes and concentrating the sounds suggested marks and colours. I chose to use my father\u2019s conte crayons which I would usually avoid because I perceive a lack of control over<\/p>\n<p>them. However the results were intense colour with soft marks<\/p>\n<p>that I enjoyed and will use again. I was also surprised at the narrative that appeared from the sounds and my marks. The sounds of fireworks evoked gunfire and I responded with red ink and tears. The sense of death and decay and cruelty is palpable. The encroachi<\/p>\n<p>ng autumn and my father\u2019s decline all consolidate this feeling of the end of things. The task in hand is to gather what can be saved and can be useful to future generations for the rebirth and regrowth that will follow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lunchtime speaker programme in science building \u2013 talks by arts organisations across Dundee. The curator from DCA was good to listen to. He talked about supporting artists rather than developing his own curatorial practice. Which of course he cannot avoid. Any stance that he takes and adopts will be his curatorial practice. Surely a more interesting description would embrace his role and actions and for him (and the showing artists) to describe the dynamic and the impact of an artist led curatorial model.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Must go and see the Manuel Solano<\/strong> The Top of Each Ripple at the DCA<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Generator sounded full of energy and vigour with great exhibitions.
